open design
The Open Design Method focuses on you, your home, and the features of a Home Management System that will make living in your home as enjoyable as possible. This is our preferred design method because the design begins as an "open" box without boundaries imposed by subsystems. In contrast to using our reference designs, the Open Design Method starts with only the core technology and software. Other than that there are no other system or subsystem biases to affect your HMS design. We start the process by getting to know you, your lifestyle, your family needs and desires, and your home's preliminary design, and the process ends with a Home Management System that exactly fits your family and your home.

After we learn what HMS and subsystem features you would like, we assist you in specifying and selecting the subsystems that are right for your home. ESC provides continuing support to you, your architect, and your builder regarding the integration of proposed subsystems with the HMS. In our role as your technology consultant, we review product specifications making sure they satisfy the needs of both the home and the HMS and, most importantly, your needs as well. The Open Design Method completely embraces all aspects of our design process philosophy.

Once your HMS design is finalized system installation and commissioning is scheduled.
